The Speed Wagon, a truck for “A Thinking Farmer“. I enjoy the Reo logo and its simplicity, centered between the bold font of Speed Wagon. The black and white illustrations display where the truck can be used in your everyday farming situation. I love how the “Six Cylinder Power” along with many other featured talked about, isn’t much different that the features talked about today. (ad from 1928)

Sinclair Gasoline Vintage Ad

Sinclair oil vintage ad uses some really nice illustrations to help tell the story of what their product can do for you, whoever you might be. The painterly-like technique goes well with the bold and condensed font used throughout the ad.

Lysol Vintage Ad

I recently found a unique 1940′s vintage Lysol ad. I love the typography of the Lysol logo itself with the pointillism fill. The illustrations also crack me up – the spit bucket and the milk bottle show the times.

Vintage Labels – James S. Robinson Apothecary

Another new find is a label for a James S. Robinson Apothecary, which was one of the oldest pharmacies in Memphis, Tennessee and was started back during the civil war. I love the artistic details used on this label that include the images, shadows, and the use cross-hatching to create depth.

Vintage Labels – Jack Daniel’s

My most recent find was a Jack Daniel’s label from the 1980′s. This label was never used so it is in great condition. The thing that stands out the most to me is the amazing use of typography and attention to detail with everything on the label including the least important information.

Water Study #1 – Aquarium Fountain

One thing that I always have been fascinated about is water. The free form of water creates shapes, textures, and effects everything it touches and that is something I see as a beautiful thing. I enjoyed shooting these pictures of the fountain at the Seattle Aquarium this afternoon.

Alaskan Way Viaduct #2

Venturing around Seattle, I wanted to keep shooting and studying the many views of the Alaskan Way Viaduct. There are many unique areas of the viaduct and many of them will never be the same again.

Vintage Magazine Ads

Earlier this week, I took a trip back to the antique store to see if I could find some more vintage black and white magazine ads. I found some more from the same era (1920′s and 1940′s); one from Oldsmobile, one from Goodyear, and another from Yardley fragrances. Again, I love the typography that these articles have and the details the drawings hold.

Alaskan Way Viaduct #1

With the history Seattle has with the viaduct and what it means to the people, I wanted to take the time and look at it before it gets torn down. Although many people think removing it from the skyline will make the city less attractive, there will be a whole new view of the architecture of the city. I will miss it, just as everyone else.

Afternoon in Port Townsend

For Katie’s birthday, we decided to grab some breakfast and coffee and hit the road on up to Port Townsend for a while. It’s kind of a special place because it’s where we had our first date. Most of the shots I have are of the old architecture, the ferry going to Widbey, or the old WW2 bunkers. While all of that is still very cool, I wanted to focus on other surroundings.
